However, the general atmosphere throughout the majority of the weekend did not reflect a party in decline. The floundering of DeSantis' official mission — he trails by huge twofold digits to Donald Trump in most open surveying — has given an eruption of energy to leftists who frantically required one.
Bradley Whitford, an actor and Democratic activist best known for his role in "The West Wing" in the early 2000s, was the event's keynote speaker. Whitford spent much of his speech criticizing DeSantis and extolling a Florida Democratic Party in need of momentum.
He said, "Ron DeSantis is a f------ coward," and there was a standing ovation for it. He is an absolute coward. He is terrified of the past. He is terrified of people who are not like him. Donald Trump scares him.
"Truth be told, Top Gov is somewhat of a base," Whitford added.
It was one of the most outstanding got lines of the evening, ridiculing a DeSantis political promotion called "Top Gov" that depicted him as a military pilot in the vein of Tom Voyage in the film "Top Firearm."
"Little Ronnie D can play spruce up and do all the homoerotic Top Firearm advertisements he needs, however no Florida isn't free," he said.
Additionally, he reveled in DeSantis's humiliating defeat in polls against Trump while he was in Miami speaking at a private event hosted by the county Republican Party on Saturday night.
