Singer Bebe Rexha says she's OK after being hit in the face on stage

At a homecoming show in New York City on Sunday night, pop star Bebe Rexha was struck in the face and injured by a cellphone thrown from the audience, according to police. A man was taken into custody.

According to police, the multiplatinum-selling, Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter was struck by the phone and taken to the hospital. In the social media posts she made on Monday, a bruise and a bandage were visible above her left eye.

In a TikTok video, she sang, "I'm good, yeah, I'm feelin' alright," taking a line from her most recent collaboration with DJ David Guetta, "I'm Good (Blue)."

According to police, Rexha, 33, was performing at Pier 17, a rooftop venue in Manhattan, when the phone was thrown. Social media videos showed the artist's phone bouncing off her head before Rexha grabbed her face and fell to her knees.

After being arraigned on Monday, Nicolas Malvagna, 27, of New Jersey, was charged with assault, aggravated harassment, and other offenses. Each is either a violation or a misdemeanor.

A complaint filed in court claims that Malvagna told a third party that at the show's conclusion, he tried to hit Beyonce with his phone because he thought "it would be funny."

His attorney received a message seeking clarification.

Rexha is best known for her hits "I'm Good (Blue)," "Meant to Be," which features country band Florida Georgia Line, and "I Got You." She has been nominated for three Grammy Awards. She worked as a songwriter for other artists before becoming a solo star, having been raised in New York.

She told The Associated Press in April, shortly before the release of her most recent album, "Bebe," "What I'm learning is that not everybody is going to connect with you and understand you, and that's OK."

She went on to say, "And I feel like you have to just be your realest, truest version of yourself" because, in the end, "if you try to change yourself to be liked by other people, you’re not really being yourself."

She is next scheduled to perform on Tuesday in Philadelphia.
