Long Awaited Love

I have had so much...of so little I want...
for the thing that I treasure the most,
has alluded my life and my heart for so long
that at times I just feel like a ghost;
It has to be asked why this feeling pervades
every moment awake and in sleep,
why the various things that a life can
possess
still leaves one feeling so incomplete;
So many who have all the love they desire
just can not seem to comprehend,
that there are so many...who would die for the chance
to share their heart...and love til the end;
To hold in one's hands, the heart meant just for them
who would tenderly care for "their" heart,
who'd be there to hear all their good days and bad
and just hold them when life falls apart;
We keep passing the tests...thinking there is a prize
at the end of the promise foretold,
and we wait and we wait and we wait that much more
but feel life and our hearts growing cold;
Just what does it take...to find One who'll share love
who is willing to wake up each day,
who will look in your eyes...with the love of your dreams
and then let you love them the same way?
Why is it so much to ask for this love
when it's meant to be the "greatest gift"
a gift of great giving not selfish or harsh
that is meant to give life a grand lift?
It's all that I've wanted since childhood days
it's the dream that makes all life worth living,
so why does it seem like a painful request
to want someone who's loving and giving?
It shouldn't be too much to ask to partake
in a dream that so many do live
for no matter what I have in my life right now
I feel empty when my heart can't give;
It feels like a sinister merry-go-round
when the love that you live for is not,
you can't help but think you are missing the boat
when you can't get what others have got;
So you wander and wonder and just shake your head
for the millionth and twenty-first time,
and you fall to your knees shouting "what does it take?"
as you fail to see reason or rhyme;
I will not understand if it's not meant to be
since I'd die just to have that sweet chance,
to hold in my hands that one heart meant for me...
to share life, and sweet love and romance!
