Getting Started
Perfect for Valentine's Day morning, snack time or even dessert, these
easy-to-make treats call for only three ingredients. Even the most
discerning foodie will be fooled in thinking these tarts took forever to
make. So whether you're making them for your kids, or you're getting
creative in the kitchen together, these hearts are sure to be a hit!
What You'll Need
The
ingredients for these tarts are: 1 pre-made pie crust (thawed or at room
temperature), 1/2 cup softened cream cheese and 3 tablespoons
strawberry fruit spread (preferably organic and low sugar). The tools
you'll need are: 2-1/2 inch heart-shaped cookie cutter, 2 non-stick
silicone baking mats, small fork, small spoon, electric mixer, little
bowl of water and one baking sheet.
Bring the pie crust up to room temperature and preheat the oven
according to instructions on the package. These hearts were baked at 450
degrees F.
Getting Started
Make it Pink
Combine cream cheese and fruit spread in a mixing bowl until well incorporated.
Transfer the pie crust to a silicone baking mat. (It's non-stick and
less messy than using flour.) Use your cookie cutter to produce hearts;
you'll need an even number to make one top and one bottom for each tart.
Make Hear
Move your hearts to a baking sheet with a silicone baking liner. (This is an easy step for the kids to help with.)
Add Filling
With a small teaspoon, add a dime-sized mound of cream cheese filling to the bottom of each tart.
Add "Glue"
Dip your finger in a bowl of water and run it along the edges of the
bottom layers. The water will act as a glue and make it easier for the
top and bottom to stick together during the baking process.
Add tops to each bottom, then use a small fork to pinch the edges. Be
sure to push through the top and bottom layer so they really form a
seal.
Bake Until Crispy
Bake at the temperature suggested on your pie crust packaging for
approximately 7 to 8 minutes. The edges will be crispy but not burned. A
sweet way to express your love on Valentine's Day... or any day of the
year!
