In a new interview, Republican National Committee Chair Ronna McDaniel reiterated her party's loyalty pledge, which stipulates that qualified candidates must support the GOP's 2024 presidential nominee in order to participate in a debate next month.
Before the GOP debate on August 23 in Milwaukee, McDaniel, who was elected to a fourth two-year term as chair in January, told Chris Wallace of CNN that candidates must agree to the "Beat Biden" pledge.
"Also, what we're talking about ... is assuming you will remain on the Conservative Public Advisory group banter stage, you ought to have the option to help the chosen one and beat Biden," McDaniel told Wallace on an episode of his CNN/Max show.
That incorporates previous President Donald Trump, she affirmed.
The RNC will present the loyalty pledge to those who meet the donor and polling criteria for the debate to GOP presidential candidates who have criticized Trump.
Trump has not yet indicated whether he would sign the pledge of loyalty.
Previous Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson and ex-New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie have shown worry over the prerequisite, while previous Rep. Will Hurd (R-Texas) said he wouldn't sign an unwaveringness vow as he wouldn't back Best.
Hurd stated earlier this week to MSNBC, "I'm not changing my opinion on the loyalty pledge."
"Donald Trump is a demonstrated washout," he added. " I let conservatives know if you choose Donald Trump for the conservative candidate, then, at that point, we are energetically giving Biden four additional years."
