Germany's Baerbock emphasizes security

In light of Russia's ongoing invasion of Ukraine, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock has emphasized the close security cooperation between the Baltic Sea-bordering nations.


Baerbock stated at the start of the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS) meeting on Thursday, "The security of each of us is the security of all of us — also here in the Baltic Sea region." The locale's unfamiliar priests met in the noteworthy city of Wismar on Germany's Baltic Ocean coast.


According to Baerbock, the war in Ukraine marked a turning point for the council and the region as a whole. Russian troops invaded Ukraine at the end of March 2022, and Russia's membership in the CBSS was suspended at the beginning of March 2022. In May 2022, Moscow then announced its withdrawal.


It has been important to focus on enhancing cooperation on energy and security issues. During the meeting, German Housing Minister Klara Geywitz talked about how the war directly affected critical infrastructure and the situation of refugees in cities and municipalities. According to Geywitz, the region must accelerate its energy turnaround in order to become fossil fuel-free.


Additionally, the Baltic Sea Council sees the removal of munitions as a joint undertaking among neighboring nations. Regardless of various needs, this should be handled mutually by all states, said Gathering Chief General Grzegorz Poznanski.
