20th Century Fox has announced the
release dates for three upcoming Marvel films, including a mystery
project set for summer 2018.
While filming on the first “Fantastic Four”
has yet to begin, the studio will release “Fantastic Four 2″ on July
14, 2017 while another Wolverine installment will bow March 3, 2017.
The untitled Marvel project, set
for July 13, 2018, could be another X-Men feature or another Fantastic
Four pic, as Fox owns the rights to both properties.
“X-Men: Days of Future Past,” co-starring Wolverine himself, Hugh Jackman, and Michael Fassbender, opens May 23, 2014.
The X-Men universe, in addition to
James Cameron’s upcoming “Avatar” sequels, remains a top priority for
Fox. Including the “Wolverine” standalone films, the X-Men franchise has
generated over $2 billion worldwide at the box office. With upcoming
action from The Avengers, Star Wars and DC’s Justice League, Fox clearly
wanted to get out front on the 2017 tentpole calendar.
The studio’s first Fantastic Four film, starring Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara, Jamie Bell and Miles Teller, opens June 19, 2015.
Additional release dates
announced: “Taken 3″ will open March 4, 2016; Daniel Radcliffe’s
“Frankenstein” is moving from January 16, 2015, to October 2, 2015 and
Matthew Vaughn’s “The Secret Service” has been bumped up to October 24,
2014.
