Julia Roberts'
sister was found dead Sunday in the bathtub of a Westside home, and law
enforcement sources said there is no evidence of foul play.
Los Angeles County
coroner's officials cautioned that they have made no final determination
on the cause of death. But law enforcement sources, who spoke on the
condition of anonymity, said some type of drug overdose might have been
involved.
Nancy Motes, a younger half-sister of the Oscar-winning actress, was found by a friend at a home on North Bundy Drive about 2 p.m. Sunday, according to police.
An autopsy was conducted Monday, but a final determination of cause of death may take several weeks while toxicology results are gathered. There was no sign of foul play, according to police. Prescription and nonprescription medications were taken as evidence, sources said.
The family issued a statement to People Magazine: "It is with deep sadness that the family of Nancy Motes ... confirms that she was found dead in Los Angeles yesterday of an apparent drug overdose," it said. "The family is both shocked and devastated."
