Aamir Khan

Aamir Khan was born to a family that is involved in the cinema industry. His dad, Tahir Hussain and uncle Nasir are both film producers; but, the latter also ventured in acting as well as in directing films. Aamir began his career at the film industry at a young age where he appeared in Nasir Hussain’s movies ‘Yaadon Ki Baaraat’ as a child artist. He started his professional career a decade later with 1984 film Holi.
Aamir has not only proven himself excellent in the field of acting. Just like his uncle Nasir, he also tried his luck in the production and direction of films. Since his life as an actor is already an open book, let’s tackle how his career as a producer began.

It was in 2001 when Aamir Khan decided to put up his own production firm. The first film he produced was musical drama Lagaan which hit the screen in 2001. It was chosen as the official entry of India for the 74th Academy Awards in the category ‘Best Foreign Language Film.’ Such also obtained many different awards in various award giving bodies like IIFA and Filmfare, and has conquered as well the ‘Most Popular Film’ in National Film Award.
In 2007, Aamir produced the drama film Taare Zameen Par, putting a mark in his directorial debut. Apart from producing, he also appeared in the film in a support role where he shared the screen with debutante child actor Darsheel Safary. The movie bagged the 2008 award for ‘Best Movie’ in Filmfare and some other awards from Starscreen and Filmfare like ‘Best Director’ awards, establishing himself as competent filmmaker.
Aamir Khan launched the career of Imran Khan, his nephew in the movie ‘Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na’ on the following year under his home production. This 2008 romantic comedy movie stars Genelia D’Souza and Imran Khan in lead roles. The film was co-produced by Ritesh Sidwani and Mansoor Khan and marks the debut of Prateik Babbar and his nephew Imran as actors, the debut of Abbas Tyrewala as director, as well as D’Souza’s reappearance in the cinema. The film got positive reviews from critics and turned out to be blockbuster at the box-office. To boot, it also earned him another Filmfare nomination in the ‘Best Movie’ category.
In 2010, Aamir Khan produced ‘Dhobi Ghat’ along with two other production firms. This movie mark the directorial debut of his spouse Kiran Rao. It stars Prateik Babbar, Monica Dogra, Kriti Malhorta, and Aamir himself - all in lead roles. Released in January of 2011, it was well-greeted by critics and turned out a commercial success at the box-office.
